At 19, Alex had his first national exposure with a brief stint on the 8th Season of American Idol, making it all the way to the Semi-Final round of 36 (out of an original 110,000 auditionees). Instead of pursuing a music career immediately after, Alex decided to attend the University of Miami’s prestigious Frost School of Music, giving him an opportunity to mature as an artist, and to study the guitar, piano, and music theory. After graduating in 2011, Alex started writing his first songs and posting them to Youtube.
Several months later, Alex was contacted by Candyrat Records, home to the Grammy-nominated Matthew Santos, and offered a recording contract. That winter, Alex wrote and recorded his first, 10-track album, Marionette, set to be released in July of 2012.
When asked to describe his style and influences, Alex responded, “This is never an easy question to answer, but I think I borrow a bit from all the genres I’ve been exposed to over my lifetime, whether that be musical theater or indie rock. I’ve been told my chord progressions can evoke The Beatles, Elliott Smith, and Radiohead.
